Graphic Design Week pt. 2

My favorite topic this week was color and font as well as the assignment it came with. I think these creative types of assignments are my strong suit so far, which I find a little odd because I usually struggle to find inspiration. Kerning was interesting to learn about mainly because of the name, it makes me think of corn kernel. Although upon further investigation, it has no relation to corn.

The thing that I’ve enjoyed most about color and font is that there are many ways to play with both to create something that best suits my style/aesthetic as needed. What I’ve struggled with most concerning this topic is putting my knowledge of it into practice. I get ideas of what I’d like to make, but since I don’t know my way around affinity yet, I find myself frustrated with learning how to make what I want with the tools provided by the app.

Luckily, there are many people that take the time to publish tutorials on youtube and I have the opportunity to learn from them. For example, I watched a tutorial so that I could make words more graphic and 3D-esque. After selecting the word and clicking ‘convert to curve’ after selecting ‘layer’ on the top left of the computer screen, this individualizes the letters. Click on the group in the box where the layers are shown to select all. You then select the mesh warp tool, and by clicking and dragging either the lines, or dots on the group you selected, you can distort the word!
