Cool Website Bro

Upon looking through the awwwards.com website, as well as context clues, I’ve gathered that this website is to highlight websites for their creativity, they also work to connect potential clients with these designers. I picked https://platanitografico.com/https://www.vogue.com/article/gen-z-broke-the-marketing-funnel-part-ii-what-now, and https://estrela.studio/. A common theme I notice is that the websites are highly interactive. You move your mouse in a certain direction and images pop up. There are carousels or when scrolling, if you hover over an image, it expands, the platanitografico website even encourages the viewer to interact with the icons. It’s a lot more engaging and more likely to stick with you. It’s novel in comparison to many current websites which feel more static. It’s impressive when I think about all the code it takes to get those kinds of results.

While cool, it’s not necessarily practical. I imagine that it takes longer to load, and it’s probably not as seamless of an experience if you have poor internet connection. Ultimately I suppose people with poor internet connection aren’t their target audience anyway. I do think it’s fun though, if i were to implement something like distorting a certain area depending on the location of the mouse to a website, it would become more memorable. The dynamic and interactive aspects of a website are effective for two reasons (at least in correlation to me), one being nostalgia: it almost feels like I’m going to play a computer game, the other reason is decreased attention span: since I have a much harder time focusing, the novelty of the website changing with any minor interaction gives me incentive to keep scrolling.
